    A delegation of 125 French coffee experts and businessmen are visiting the Ivory Coast at the invitation of the government to attend coffee promotion week.

    The experts have visited coffee and cocoa plantations.

    The Ivory Coast Minister for Agriculture, M. Abdoulaye Sawadogo, greeted the French delegates on Wednesday (Jan 27th). He told them the Ivory Coast hoped to surpass Brazil in Coffee production. Brazil is at present the world's largest producer of coffee. He added that the Ivory Coast would increase its own consumption of coffee.

    M. Sawadogo invited the French visitors to inspect toffee plantations and factories in the Ivory Coast.

    On Thursday (January the 28th) the delegates visited experimental coffee and coca plantations at the French Institute of Coffee near Abidjan.

    They inspected young trees two-and-a-half years old which will not be ready for harvesting for another two years. They also saw cocoa trees ready for harvesting.

    Speaking on behalf of the French experts, M. Laude, from Nice, thanked M. Sawadogo for the invitation to visit the Ivory Coast. He assured the Minister of French support for Ivory Coast coffee which he said was the best in the world.
