    SOCIALIST LEADERS FROM SIX EUROPEAN COUNTRIES MEETING IN SWEDEN THIS WEEKEND, TODAY (SATURDAY) AGREED THAT THE EUROPEAN FREE TRADE ASSOCIATION (EFTA) SHOULD SEEK TALKS WITH ITS RIVAL, THE COMMON MARKET, DESPITE THE PRESENT CRISIS WITHIN THE SIX.

    THE AGREEMENT WAS REPORTED BY DENMARK'S PRIME MINISTER, MR JENS OTTO KRAG, AT A PRESS CONFERENCE FOLLOWING TODAY'S FIRST SESSION.HE SAID THAT THE CONFERENCE HAD REACHED ACCORD ON THREE MAIN POINTS WHICH CALLED FOR A 'DIALOGUE' BETWEEN EFTA AND THE COMMON MARKET; NEGOTIATIONS BY EFTA AS A GROUP RATHER THAN AS SEPARATE COUNTRIES; AND, THAT EFTA SHOULD NOT BE DETERRED BY THE COMMON MARKET CRISIS CAUSED BY THE FRENCH BOYCOTT OF 'SIX' BUSINESS.

    REPRESENTED AT THE MEETING ARE AUSTRIA BY VICE CHANCELLOR BRUNO PITTERMAN; BRITAIN BY ECONOMIC AFFAIRS MINISTER GEORGE BROWN; WEST GERMANY BY SOCIAL DEMOCRAT CHAIRMAN HERR WILLY BRANDT; DENMARK BY HER PRIME MINISTER; NORWAY BY PRIME MINISTER EINAR GERHARDSEN; AND SWEDEN BY PRIME MINISTER TAGE ERLANDER, WHO CALLED THE MEETING.

    TWO SPECIAL GUESTS ARE MR.GEORGE WOODCOCK, CHAIRMAN OF BRITAIN'S TRADES UNION CONGRESS, AND, MR.WALTHER REUTHER, THE AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE WORKERS UNION LEADER.

    THE MEETING WAS CONFINED TODAY TO ECONOMIC QUESTIONS AND DURING TOMORROW'S FINAL SESSION THERE WILL BE A REVIEW OF SECURITY QUESTIONS, INCLUDING VIETNAM AND NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT.

    (EFTA HAS ALREADY CONSIDERED AN APPROACH TO THE EUROPEAN COMMON MARKET.A DRAFT PROPOSAL IS NOW BEING PREPARED AND WILL BE SUBMITTED TO THE EFTA MINISTERIAL MEETING SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE IN COPENHAGEN DURING OCTOBER.
