  • Description

The "North-South" economic dialogue between the world's rich and poor nations ended in the French capital, Paris, on Friday (3 June) without the expected major agreements. The world's developing nations had been seeking pledges of increased development aid from the industrialised countries. But the ministers at the Paris conference have agreed to leave the way open for further discussions on the matter in other international bodies. And they did agree that the economic dialogue had not been a total failure....as the Conference Co-Chairman Allan MacEachen told a news conference on Friday.

SYNOPSIS: Venezuela's Dr. Manuel Perez -- the other Co-Chairman of the conference -- told newsmen the Paris talks and had demonstrated the unity of the developing nations of the world. But he added that advances made during the discussions were not enormous for comparable with the vast dimension of the problem. The way has been left open, though, for further discussions on bridging the huge gulf between the world's rich and poor nations.
