To smash through the remaining floes, harbour officials brought in the D'Iberville --Canada's newest and toughest ice breaker. A number of interested by-standers watched from a lookout point as she went to work. The D'Iberville is rated one of the most powerful ice-breakers in the world. Like others of her kind, she does the job, not by cutting through the ice, but by riding up over it and allowing her weight to crush it.
