Background: French and Egyptian delegates met in Geneva for talks on the damage caused by last year's Suez engagement.
The talks were to have been held in confidence, as their purpose was to prepare the field for more official discussions at a later date.
Therefore delegates did not meet in the UN Palace but in a remote room of the Art Exhibition building. In order not to be photographed with the Egyptians, the French delegate arrived ten minutes later than the scheduled time.
However, the French overlooked the Egyptian custom to arrive for appointments fifteen minutes late, and finally all the members disappeared candidly behind the doors of the Art Gallery.
The head of the French delegation is the Inspector General of Finance, Jean Robert and his Egyptian counterpart, Elattafi Sinbel.
