Prime Minister Hussein, after he had two rounds of private talks with Suharto at Merdeka Presidential Palace, revealed that an economic and cultural organization ASEAN should not let itself go adrift into a security or military pact.

"Such a pact wold only invite prejudice from other countries and would be against the original concept. However, if the situation at some stage needs ASEAN members to deal with security matters, they will have to face them," he said.

Datuk Hussein said the main thing was to speed up envelopment of ASEAN member sand to preserve cooperation among them.

Prime Minister was reported to have planned to visit Thailand and Singapore next week for talks with Thai and Singapore leaders on the Bali Summit.
