    President Moktar Ould Daddah of Mauritania arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday (24 August) on a three day stat visit to India.

    SYNOPSIS: President Ould Daddah was making the first official visit to India by a Mauritanian head of state. Waiting to welcome him were the Indian president. Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. President Daddah later had talks with both of the, and attended a banquet given by President Ahmed.

    The Mauritanian leader said he was sure India and Mauritania--both belonging to the third world and following a policy of non-alignment--were bound by the same destiny and would continue to cooperate in future. President Ould Daddah said his talks with Mrs. Gandhi would strengthen fraternal relations and solidarity between the two countries. He hoped during his stay to see India's achievements in various fields, especially in industry and agriculture.

    During their talks, the two leaders will discuss bilateral relations and the problems facing non-aligned nations. President Ahmed said india welcomed the opportunity ti discuss matters of common interest to both countries, as well as to review progress and development of bilateral relations.
