KIKHIA: "This blatant act of aggression and violence not only constitutes a violation of the United Nations charter and a disregard for the principles of international law, but they also greatly threaten the peace and security of the area. The Egyptian regime must be held responsible for the consequences resulting from its acts of aggression. There have been unambiguous indications demonstrating that these Egyptian acts of aggression have been supported and instigated by certain imperialist and reactionary forces. In this context it should be pointed out that on the 6th of July 1977 a pilotless reconnaissance plane was shot down by the Libyan air defence forces. This plane had been deployed over our territory by an aircraft carrier belonging to a superpower positioned near the Egyptian coast. As a further indication of the reactionary forces' involvement in this aggression against us, it can be noted that captured Egyptian pilots confirmed that some of the Egyptian raids originated from bases in another neighbouring country. The extent of Zionist support and the blessing for this Egyptian aggression is self-evident in the assurance given to President Sadat by the Israelis that they will not disturb Egypt while Egyptian troops are concentrated for attacking Libya. But the brotherly Egyptian people have not been duped by these intrigues and conspiracies. The Egyptian people will not believe the false and vicious accusations reiterated by President Sadat such as the allegation that Libya supports terrorism. We realise that these slanderous accusations have been directed towards creating an internal and external atmosphere suitable for aggression against Libya."
