  • Description

SEVEN CARS WERE INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS PILE-UP DURING THE MONZA FORMULA TWO LOTTERY GRAND PRIX YESTERDAY (SUNDAY).

FRENCH DRIVER JEAN PIERRE JAUSSAUD WAS THE ONLY ONE SERIOUSLY INJURED WHEN HIS CAR, INVOLVED IN THE MULTIPLE CRASH, ROCKETED INTO THE AIR AND FELL TO THE GROUND IN FLAMES.

JAUSSAUD, DRIVING A TECNO, WAS RUSHED TO HOSPITAL BY HELICOPTER AFTER THE SPECTACULAR 125 MILES PER HOUR (200 KPH) CRASH ON THE GREAT CURVE NEAR THE FINISHING LINE OF THE MONZA TRACK. THE PILE-UP STARTED WHEN BRITAIN'S DEREK BELL, IN A DINO FERRARI, SPUN ROUND AND ENDED LENGTHWAYS ACROSS THE TRACK. SIX OTHER CARS PLOUGHED INTO HIM AND OVERTURNED IN FLAMES.

EVENTUAL WINNER OF THE RACE WAS BRITAIN'S JONATHAN WILLIAMS, DRIVING A BRABHAM.
