SYNOPSIS: Soccer -- and in the English League Division One Spurs -- playing in white shirts -- beat Ipswich 2-1 at Spurs' home ground at White Heat Lane in London on Saturday. Ipswich dominated the first half, however, with some skilful play, and forward Ian Collard, number sight, put them ahead in the 16th minute with a well-deserved goal....
Ipswich, who were playing a sparkling game after only managing to score six goals in ten games so far this season, were not really troubled by Spurs. They were still ahead by one goal at the second half kick-off, but suddenly Spurs forward Martin Chivers found the ball at the right time and scored the equaliser in the 57th minute, beating goalkeeper Sivell with a low drive....
Ipswich tried to rally, but it seamed that Spurs had taken the initiative. And, following a tight goal-mouth scuffle round the Ipswich net, Spurs' Alan Gilzean put a shot past Sivell with a ball that ran back out of the goal-moth. The referee awarded the goal in a decision hotly disputed by the Ipswich players....but the score stayed at 2-1 for the rest of the games for a Spurs' home victory.
