Background: An assortment of 200 murderous looking home-made weapons, taken from teen-agers, were displayed at police headquarters, Chelmsford, Essex, October 28, when Chief Superintendent Barkway was interviewed on the growth of teen-age violence in the Essex area.

When asked whether he thought teen-agers would use the weapons the Chief Superintendent said he thought they carried them more for bravado, but they would probably use them in the heat of an argument or fight.

He appealed to parents to exercise more control, and to turn any such weapons over to the police, should they find their children carrying them.

This is not a problem peculiar to Essex, or Great Britain. Unfortunately the teen-age problem is universal, and one that should not be treated lightly.
