To stimulate the interest and the sympathy of the Dutch people, especially of the Dutch boys, the Dutch airforce has organized a show of their flying material and modern equipment on the military airbase Twente near Enschede (in the eastern part of Holland). How especially the youth has appreciated this initiative, you can see for yourself. They climb upon, underneath and into the planes and they like it very much. Most "technical" discussions arose and for many a boy it was an experience he was not likely to forget.

Background: When the Dutch Air Force decided to put on an air show at the Twente Military Airbase, they hoped to stimulate the interest of the Dutch people - especially the young boys.

They could not have been more successful. Within a few minutes of the opening of the show, small boys clambering on to, inside, and generally all over every aircraft in sight.

Guns were swung round and round, alerans were pulled up and down, cockpit covers moved back and forth, and they gazed in wonder at the selection of aircraft on view.

Finally, it took a breath-taking display of aerobatics by pilots flying American T-33 jet trainers - distinctive by their wing-tip petrol tanks - to drag the boys away from the parked aircraft, and out onto the tarmac.
