  • Description

Jeering white women surrounded the New Orleans home of Reverend Foreman, a Methodist clergyman, after he had evaded pickets outside the William Frants school and took his three children inside to attend integrated classes December 1.

Meanwhile, outside the school, one of two ordered to integrate Negro and white pupils, crowds of screaming women manhandled Sydney Goldfinch,a white University student, because they recognised him as the leader of recent sit-in demonstrations by Negro and white students at segregated lunch counters in local stores.

Police rescued Goldfinch, son of a Protestant clergyman, and drove him away. Next week Goldfinch, and three Negroes, face trial for participating in the demonstrations.
