    President Idi Amin of Uganda, declaring that some policemen were cowards, on Saturday (27 May) urged Ugandan police cadets to go and investigate when they heard shooting, instead of running away.

    His remarks came in a speech after reviewing a passing-out parade of 339 sadats at the police training collage in Kampala. The government has recently placed a great deal of emphasis on crime central. A large recruiting drive has been going on for more policemen, and crackdowns an various form s of vice have been increasing.

    In his speech to police cadets, President Main banned miniskirts and hot pants, saying that the imported styles are a disgrace to the culture of Uganda. His announcement on miniskirts follows a campaign against prostitution earlier in May.
