  • Description

A moving pavement, or travolator, has been constructed at one of London's busy rush-hour underground stations. It will be open for public use on Sept 27, and for the office workers that use Bank tube station the long walk from street level is over.

It is about 354 ft long and consists of a continuous platform working in the same fashion as an escalator. The travolator will transport about forty thousand passengers every day. For office girls there need be no fear of damaging stilleto heels as it has been tested and proved safe.

About three years work has gone into construction at the cost of nearly one million pounds. It is the first moving pavement to be built in Europe.
