A European economic community delegation led by Mr. Claude Chesson began talks here today aimed at strengthening cooperation with Lebanon. The 20 member team which arrived here yesterday, called on mr. Fuad Ghosn, the acting FM and deputy PM and a number of lebanese experts. I a press statement a after the 2 hour meeting mr. Ghosn said discussions covered the possibility of expanding the agreement concluded between EEC and Lebanon in 1972 or concluding a new ac??? accord. The lebanese cabinet has approved the 1972 agreement and referred it to Parliament for a debate. It provides, among other things, for a reduction in custom duties on lebanese products and making use of EEC aid. Mr. Ghosn said the talks were aimed at expanding the agreement on new bases, including opening European markets for ME industrial products by exempting them fully from custom duties and placing no restriction on exports. This is in addition to significant reduction of custom duties on agricultural products reaching up to 80 percent and technical, financial and economic aid provided by the EEC. The minister added that discussions also covered arrangements relating to workers from the ME working in EEC member states and "cancelling all discrimination against them in respect of working conditions, pay and social benefits"...
