  • Description

Africa's newest national wildlife reserve, Tarangire Park in Northern Tanzania, is the gift of American millionaire Charles Engelhardt.

The Park contains all the usual big game including rhino, elephant, and buffalo, as well as zebras and rarer game such as oryx and lesser kudu.

Birdlife is also plentiful, with the weaver bird.. which builds its nest in acacia trees ... much in evidence. The park has many good observation points.

A rare sight for the cameraman was a dead elephant... apparently crushed to death by a fallen baobab tree. The elephant had a broken back and internal injuries when found, and had already been attacked by scavengers. The opening of the Tarangire Park coincides with World Conservation Year.
