  • Description

THE BEATLES, BRITAIN'S TOP "POP" MUSIC GROUP, FOLLOWED UP THEIR RECENT SUCCESS IN AUSTRALIA WITH A TOUR OF NEW ZEALAND, WHICH BEGAN IN WELLINGTON ON SUNDAY.

MORE THAN 7,000 FANS WERE AT THE AIRPORT TO WELCOME THE GROUP -- JOHN LENNON, PAUL McCARTNEY, GEORGE HARRISON, AND RINGO STARR -- WHEN THEY FLEW INTO WELLINGTON AIRPORT.

THE BEATLES RECEIVED A TRADITIONAL MAORI GREETING AS THEY LEFT THE PLANE. THEN THEY DROVE PAST CHEERING CROWDS INTO THE CITY.

TRAFFIC WAS DIVERTED FROM CITY STREETS NEAR THEIR HOTELS AS HUNDREDS OF HAPPY FANS JOSTLED WITH POLICE BEFORE THE ARRIVAL OF THEIR IDOLS.
