  • Description

The sixteen hijacked hostages who were found by Jordanian soldiers in an Amman refugee camp on Friday (Sept 25), arrived AT London Airport tonight (Saturday, 26 Sept) to a tumultuous welcome. Captain Cyril Goulbourne, the pilot of the hijacked BOAC VC-1O, spoke to reporters about their time with the guerrillas.

The hostages were found in the Wadhat refugee camp, a guerrilla stronghold in Amman which had been heavily shelled by the Jordanian Army since the civil war began. They had been held hostage by the guerrillas of the popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) since their BOAC VC-IO was hijacked on September 9. The VC-IO has flown to Dawson's field in northern Jordan where it was later blown up with two other jet aircraft.

The women and children from the aircraft had been released previously by the guerrillas: the sixteen who arrived in London tonight were part of the 54 hostages retained. The remaining 38 hostages are being released by the guerrillas, it has been announced.
