  • Description

Alhaji Abubakar Tafawn Balown, formerly Minister of Transport, recently accepted the invitation of the Governor General, Sir James Robertson, to become Nigeria's first Prime Minister.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister submitted the names of his Cabinet to replace those of the dissolved Council of Ministers.

The Cabinet showed little change apart from the dropping of the three British officials, the Chief Secretary, the Financial Secretary, and the Attorney General, under the new constitutional proposals.

The Prime Minister has, however, achieved his aim of broadening the basis of the Government to include all three major parties, two seats going to the Action Group.
