  • Description

SENEGAL'S COMMISSIONER OF TOURISM, M. SOULEYMANE SIDIBE, WATCHED THE DEMONSTRATION OF THE COUNTRY'S FIRST AUTOMATIC BEACH-CLEANING MACHINE ON WEDNESDAY (28 JANUARY). THE MACHINE WAS DEMONSTRATED ON THE BEACH AT N'GOR, A FEW MILES FROM THE CAPITAL DAKAR.

UNDER PERFECT WORKING CONDITIONS, THE MACHINE -- WHICH IS PULLED BY A TRACTOR -- IS CAPABLE OF CLEANING BETWEEN 1,800 AND 2,000 TONS OF SAND AN HOUR.

THE MACHINE HAS BEEN PURCHASED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF DAKAR. COUNCILLORS PRESENT AT THE DEMONSTRATION WERE CONGRATULATED BY COMMISSIONER SIDIBE ON THEIR FORESIGHT. SENEGALESE BEACHES, HE SAID, PLAYED AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN DEVELOPING TOURISM IN THE COUNTRY.

    M. SIDIBE HOPED THAT OTHER AUTHORITIES WOULD FOLLOW THE EXAMPLE OF DAKAR IN SEEKING METHODS OF PROMOTING TOURISM.

THE GOVERNOR OF THE CAP-VERT REGION, M. MOUSSA DIOUF DIAGNE, WAS ALSO PRESENT AT THE DEMONSTRATION.
