    Background: Delegates from 21 Arab countries met in the capital of Qatar, Doha, for the seventh conference of the Arab States' Broadcasting Union on Thursday (3 April).

    Qatar's Minister of Information Issa Al Kawari opened the first session, which was also attended by representatives from several international organisations and European, African and Asian countries.

    The Union, based in Cairo, was set up in 1969 to offer mutual assistance to its member countries to improve their broadcasting systems.
