  • Description

At Geneva June 18 Foreign Secretary Selwyn Lloyd entertained his Russian counterpart at a private luncheon. Film shows Andrei Gromyko arriving and leaving.

At the luncheon, Gromyko requested that the private Foreign Ministers' meeting arranged for the afternoon should be put off until the next day, June 19. The time agreed for the postponed meeting was 2 pm.

Gromyko declared that without this delay he would not be able to give his comments on the western proposals on Berlin, handed to him June 16. Observers think he may still be waiting for instructions from Moscow where talks are being held with East German Government leaders.

After the luncheon, Selwyn Lloyd went to see Christian Herter whose plane has arrived at Geneva from the United States, ready to take him home.

Should the Soviet Government decide that the western proposals cannot be accepted for discussion it is expected that the conference will go into recess until about mid-July. If there is an adjournment there will be further diplomatic exchanges to prepare the way for a resumption of the Foreign Ministers' talks and also to ease the way to an eventual summit meeting.
