    THE NIGHT PEOPLE OF CHICAGO EMERGED IN THE DAYLIGHT ON WEDNESDAY (MARCH 18TH) TO ATTEND A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR REVEREND ROBERT OWEN, KNOWN AS THE NIGHT PASTOR OF CHICAGO.

    POLICEMEN, BARTENDERS, WAITRESSES, TAXI DRIVERS..... MORE THAN 600 OF THEM WENT TO ST. JAMES EPISCOPAL CATHEDRAL FOR THE SERVICE.

    REVEREND OWEN, WHO WAS ONLY 46, DIED IN THE LUTHERAN GENERAL HOSPITAL, APPARENTLY FROM A STROKE.

    HE STARTED HIS NIGHT MINISTRY IN CHICAGO IN 1964 AS A VOLUNTARY EXPERIMENTAL PASTORATE AVAILABLE TO ALL FAITHS. IT WAS SO SUCCESSFUL THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH ALLOWED HIM TO GO AHEAD WITH IT FULL-TIME.

    HE VISITED THE NOISY JAZZ JOINTS AND NIGHT CLUBS TO HELP THE PEOPLE WHO LIVED AND WORKED BEHIND THE GLITTER OF THE CHICAGO NIGHT LIFE.

    APPROPRIATELY, 21 JAZZ MUSICIANS PLAYED DURING PARTS OF THE SERVICE IN THE CATHEDRAL.

    REV. OWEN IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, TWO SONS AND FIVE DAUGHTERS.
