  • Description

"I hate women - that's why I design hats", sang Danny Kaye as Walter Mitty. But he hats shown on one of Stockholm's promenades, May 7, were entirely designed by women. And the term "hat" was obviously taken to mean anything that could be worn on a woman's ahead."
It was the 15th hat parade and competition, organised by a Stockholm evening paper. The ladies of Stockholm were invited to don their own creations and to wall up and down the "Strandvagen", where a jury would decide who should receive the offered money prizes and the title of "Hat Queen".

Imagination was certainly running wild and some of the results were positively startling. The spectator's sympathies wen to the jury who had to pick and choose among a welter of dunce's caps, bird-cages, wicker baskets, lampshades, fruit-laden cloches, towers of flowers and things with wings.
