    Background: The foreign Minister of the 41-member nations of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) opened their 21st Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, on Thursday (May 17). This year is the tenth anniversary of the OAU.

    Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie addressed the meeting.

    The main tasks of the conference are to prepare a draft agenda of over 40 items for the full-scale OAU summit starting on May 26 and to prepare a political declaration to be published on May 25.
