  • Description

A service was held at Athens Cathedral on Sunday (26 November) to honour the dead of the Greek War in Albania. The occasion was the 32nd anniversary of the occupation of Koritza (Albania) by the Greek Forces following the defeat of the Fascists. Sunday's service was organised by the North-Epirotic Association, and it also symbolised their campaign for the return of North Epirus from Albania to Greece.

The Association, whose members are mainly refugees from the region, later marched through Athens to lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown warrior.

Greece has been in contention with Albania over North Epirus ever since 1940. Tension cooled sufficiently for diplomatic relations to be resumed this year, but the region is still claimed by Greece.
