Prince Charles was guest of honour tonight (Tuesday) at the annual New Zealand Day dinner. This year the event had a dual purpose...New Zealand Day and the ???-Centennial of the landings in the country by Captain Cook.
Among the 480 guests at the dinner were the High Commissioner for New Zealand. Sir Denis Blundell, the Ambassadors and Commissioners from Australia, Japan, Jamaica, Tonga, India and Luxembourg and the leader of the British Irans-Arctic Expedition, Sir Peter Studd.
The dinner was held in the main dining hall of the Savoy Hotel.
Prince Charles spoke at length on Anglo-New Zealand relations and the forthcoming Royal Tour of Australia and New Zealand. He also made reference to the voyages of Captain Cook.
