  • Description

In Japan the major opposition party, the Socialists, have backed a new organisation formed to promote closer link with Peking. The organisation has been named the Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association. Its formation yesterday (Tuesday, Feb. the 16) came as unofficial talks were being held in Peking between Chinese and Japanese officials.

The Association was formed at a meeting between members of the Socialist Party and associated opposition groups and representatives of the Central Council of Trade Unions of Japan. Later a rally was held which was attended by more than 1,000 people. The Association called on Japan to fight against what it called American Imperialism and the restoration of Japanese militarism. It also called for the cutting of relations with Taiwan.
