  • Description

Several thousand people attended Armistice Day ceremonies in Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic, on Wednesday (November 11). The ceremonies were headed by a senior minister of the government, Mr. Ange Patasse, minister of transport and commerce.

Mr. Patasse replaced President Bokassa who was in Paris to attend the funeral of General Charles de Gaulle.

The traditional ceremonies, held at the Monument du Colonel De Roux in the centre of the Bangui, were attended by members of the Free French Forces of Bangui and detachments of the Gendarmerie Nationale.

The day was observed in many countries throughout Europe, and in the United States, to commemorate those who gave their lives in the two would wars.
