  • Description

Fifty-eight cars attracted hundreds of sightseers when on exhibition in Toronto, Canada, Oct. 19. The cars were vintage models - but with a difference. Their owners had spent hours of loving patience converting them into pedigree "hot rods", with racing car performance.

Officials at the meeting - organised by the Dragsters Rod and Custom Club - were careful to point out a big difference between these "hot rods" and the ordinary run of teenagers' hotted-up jalopies. Some of the machines on show cost up to GBP1,000. One of the 1925-26 Model T's exhibited is capable of reaching 130 miles per hour for standstill in ten seconds flat.

Cups and trophies were awarded for the best cars in each of the various classes. Proceeds from the event, called Autorama fifty-nine, wore sent to charity.
