The Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) has taken delivery of new missiles to aid them against Israel. The missiles -- 'Sam Sevens' will be used in Southern Lebanon when the PLO Commandos have been taught how to use them.
SYNOPSIS: The site for the training session in the operation of the new missile system was guarded by anti-aircraft guns -- the kind the Palestine Liberation Organisation have until now used to strike at Israeli aircraft staging raids in Southern Lebanon.
An instructor painstakingly outlined the operation of the 'Sam Sevens' which can be used more easily than anti-aircraft guns, which are generally too heavy to be manned by one person.
Each commando was given an opportunity to inspect the weapons and learn the proper technique. According to Reuters News Agency, heavy civilian casualties have resulted from a series of Israeli air, naval and artillery bombardment in Southern Lebanon in the past few months.
And bitter opposition to the Egyptian-Israeli peace pact has narrowed differences between radical and moderate Palestinian commando groups. Sources report that genuine unity among the different Palestinian factions is now a more real prospect than in the past.
At the end of the training session Israeli jets were sighted flying over the area. The new missiles were not used -- instead anti-aircraft guns fired at the jets. No hits were reported.
