    President Anwar Sadat of the United Arab Republic returned to his home village in the central Delta provinces of Monoufiyeh for the funeral of his father yesterday (Thursday). Other government leaders, including Vice President Hussein El Shafei, accompanied the head of state at the funeral ceremonies.

    SYNOPSIS: Mit Abul Kom, a small village in the central Delta area of the United Arab Republic, is birthplace of President Anwar Sadat. But it was a sad homecoming for the Egyptian head of state on Thursday. He had come back to attend the funeral of his father, who had died the previous day. Vice-President Hussein El Shafei and other government leaders accompanied the head of state at the Moslem funeral ceremonies.

    The President has often referred to his roots in the country, describing his childhood as a typical rural upbringing.

    The Sadat family home was built fifteen years ago. On Thursday, it was a place of sadness. But the memory of the President's father will obviously live on, perpetuated in the accomplishments of his son.
