Background: In what is believed to be the first official contact between the two countries, a North Korean goodwill mission arrived for talks in Uganda on Friday (July 28). The four-man mission is expected to have discussions with President Idi Amin and Ugandan Government officials.
Ambassador Extraordinary Gwon Hui Gyong led the North Korean group, which was welcomed at the airport by the Ambassador of The People's Republic of China, Mr. Pe Ku-hai, and Ugandan Foreign Affairs Ministry officials.
Uganda has long-established relations with South Korea, which has made available substantial aid for public health projects. The North Korean mission's programme had not been finalised at the time of its arrival.
