Background: Canada's Football Championship - the cup final was played this year at Vancouver, November 28. The afternoon opened with Edmonton Eskimos playing a strong defensive game against determined attacks from Ottawa's Roughriders. After four minutes, Ottawa scored on the Edmonton 13-yard line.
The second quarter of the game saw Edmonton make their only score. After an unsuccessful conversion attempt the score board showed Edmonton 6, Ottawa 3. Two minutes later, Ottawa got their own back. The touchdown brought the first half score to 9-6 in Ottawa's favour.
In the second half, a kick forward by Ottawa brought them another six-point touchdown, and the successful conversion. made the score 16-6.
A 76-yard run by one of the Edmonton side looked like a fighting come-back, but Ottawa's defence was too good.
Nearly a minute before the end, crowds swarmed on to the field, forcing officials to end the game. It was the first time the Canadian cup game had not run its full sixty minutes, but no one doubted Ottawa were the new Canadian football champions as the final gun sounded ...
And afterwards, there was the traditional drink of champagne for the winners.
