    THE NORWEGIAN FREIGHTER HERVANG ARRIVED AT THE WESTERN AUSTRALIAN PORT OF FREMANTLE ON THURSDAY WITH HER BOWS TWISTED AND TORN. THE HERVANG HAD BEEN IN COLLISION WITH A JAPANESE TUNA BOAT THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILES (520 KILOMETRES) WEST OF CARNARVON ON MONDAY.

    ALL TWENTY FOUR MEN ABOARD THE JAPANESE BOAT WERE PICKED UP BY THE 'HERVANG'.

    THE 'HERVANG' OF 10-THOUSAND TONS, LIMPED INTO FREMANTLE UNDER HER OWN STEAM.

    THE JAPANESE TUNA FISHERMEN, WHO HAD BEEN GIVEN CLOTHES BY CREW MEMBERS OF THE 'HERVANG' WERE GIVEN ASSISTANCE BY THE RED CROSS. THE CAPTAIN OF THE JAPANESE BOAT, THE ONLY MAN INJURED IN THE COLLISION, WAS ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL.

    GOVERNMENT AUTHORITIES IN AUSTRALIA HAVE SAID THEY WILL NOT MAKE ANY INVESTIGATION INTO THE ACCIDENT UNLESS REQUESTED BY THE NORWEGIAN AND JAPANESE GOVERNMENTS.
