  • Description

A DC-8 jet aircraft chartered by the United States Air Force crashed near the runway at Naha, Okinawa, on Monday (July 27) killing the four crewmen.

The bodies of the four men were recovered from the wreckage by U.S. navy rescue workers.

The airliner, owned by the Flying Tiger line, broke into three when it crashed on coral only 100 yards (metres) short of the runway. The nose and tail segments immediately sank but the main fuselage section was left on the coral.

The plane had been on a cargo flight from Tokyo to Naha, capital of Okinawa, when it crashed.
