    The third annual conference of the Ghana Association of Social workers has ended in Tema with an appeal to African nations for closer cooperation in this field. The week long conference closed on Friday (September 6).

    The theme of this year;s conference was the "Role of Agriculture and Rural Technology in National Development". Delegates from Kenya, Mali, Tanzania, Senegal, Togo, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Cameroun and West Germany attended.

    During the week of discussion the delegates heard a number of speeches from members of the Ghanaian Government departments concerned with Social Welfare and Agriculture. The meeting agreed that there should be closer cooperation between the African nations in both fields. A full report of the proceedings will be sent to nations unable to send delegates.

    SYNOPSIS: In Tema, Ghana, delegates from nine African nations and social work groups in Ghana, have been meeting to discuss the role of Agriculture and rural technology in national development.

    Mr. King Bruce, a representative from the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare was among the guest speakers at the closing session on Friday.

    The week long conference was the third organised by the Social Welfare Association in Ghana. This year's theme of Agriculture's role in national development was present in most of the speeches. At the end of the discussions the delegates made an appeal for closer cooperation between African nations in the fields of social welfare.
