Background: "Miss Britain", a creature with red, white and blue make-up, is here today to promote a London Week in San Francisco, Nov. 12-17, and travel to England.

Her measurements, instead of something like 38-23-37, are on the order of 28 by 8 feet -- for she is a delux English 22-passenger touring coach.

It's air conditioned , pressurized, fitted with bar, wall-to-wall carpets, reclining seats, and taped music.

It's England's answer to the Greyhound bus which toured Britain last year, with Pan Am participation, to promote travel to the U.S.A.

On board "Miss Britain" are two Pan Am stewardesses, Sandra Burdett and Betty Ann Eden, of San Mateo, both originally from England, who act as hostesses.

Sandra wears a musical-show version of a Tower of London Beefeater's costume, and is billed as "Miss Latin Quarter." Costume features long mesh stockings and an exiguous red jacket, with velvet hat and halberd.

The coach came here by way of Las Vegas and Los Angeles where England's champion, driver, Mervyn C. Pulford, 30, said he got used to navigating the vehicle over "your dual carriage-ways", or freeways.

Captain of the bus is Bernard A. Wallis, general manager of World Wide Coaches, London, which with F.I.T. Car Hire is sponsor of the tour. Pan American Airways is aiding. The sponsors conduct luxury guided bus tours of Britain and Europe.

After the visit in Norther California the coach will tool along U.S. 101 to Seattle, keeping to the right after the American custom, and then eastward via Denver to Chicago, Detroit, and Toronto, to New York, to emblazon the comfort of travel in Olde England.
