  • Description

Several hundred dock workers staged a pro-Castro demonstration in Sydney, Australia, on April 19th. In Cuba, Prime Minister Castro's forces were still fighting to crush the ill-fated rebel landings. On April 18th, pro-Castro and anti-U.S. demonstrations occurred in Moscow, Budapest, Belgrade, Tokyo, Peking, Buenos Aires, and Paris.

The dockers marched to a car park near the U.S. consulate, and some tried to get into the building. They carried pro-Castro and anti-United States banners.

Mr. Stan Moran, Communist treasurer of the Waterside Workers Federation, spoke through a loud-hailer, urging support for Castro.

Police arrested nine men on charges of offensive behaviour before the meeting dispersed. Later, those arrested pleaded Not Guilty and were remanded.
