INTRODUCTION: South African policeman, Kallie Knoetze, best Nigerian Ngozika Ekwelum when the referee stopped the fight in the seventh round of their heavyweight boxing bout in Johannesburg on Saturday (29 January).

SYNOPSIS: It was the most impressive win of Knoetze's career. His attacking began to take effect in the third round of the scheduled ten-round fight.

The west German-based Nigerian had previously knocked out the former British and European champion, Richard Dunn, and drawn with the South American champion, Raul Girisito. But he was no match for Knoetze.

The fight was finally stopped in the seventh round when the South African drove his opponent around the ring, landing heavy right and left-hand blows before the referee stepped in. But Ekwelum took a heavy beating in the sixth round too. He was knocked to the canvas twice for the mandatory counts of eight. And, apart from an awkward straight left, the Nigerian rarely trouble Knoetze, who started with a four kilograms (nine pounds) weight advantage.
