  • Description

SV (Two Shot) Yasser Abed Rabbo listening to question by Visnews reporter Helena Cobban and answering question

COBBAN: "Mr. Yasser Abed Rabbo, member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, what is your view of the significance of the resignation of the Israeli Foreign Minister, Mr. Dayan. Do you think this means that there are deep difference within the Israeli cabinet and ruling circles?"

RABBO: "Well, the differences between Dayan and the Israeli cabinet were over the means, and not the ends. The difficulties which faced Camp David, especially the firm opposition of the Palestinian people, to the autonomous rule, led Dayan and some others to search for new manoeuvres and methods in order to find a way out of the deadlock. The only significance we conclude, as PLO, is to escalate our struggle, to unite our people more and more against Camp David agreements and the so called autonomous solution, and against the forthcoming manoeuvres of the U.S. Especially when everybody knows that Dayan was closely connected with the U.S. policy. Moreover, the history has shown that Dayan was responsible of slaughtering tens of thousands of Palestinians and Arabs for more than thirty years. Dayan is not rejecting the policy of the israeli Cabinet, he's trying to improve it within the framework of the U.S. policy and the interests of the United States in the area."

In the United States, Special Envoy to the Middle East, Robert Strauss, has cautioned the U.S. Government against trying to "pressure" the Israeli's now, white the government is undergoing a period and change.
