  • Description

AT THE GHANA MILITARY ACADEMY AT TESHIE, A SUBURD OF ACCRA, LAST SATURDAY (15 OCTOBER), 27 SENIOR CADETS PASSED-OUT AFTER A TWO-YEAR BASIC TRAINING IN MILITARY AND ACADEMIC SUBJECTS. THE COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE GHANA ARMED FORCES, LIEUTENANT-GENERAL J.A. ANKRAH, TOOK THE SALUTE AT A MARCH-PAST OF THE CADETS.

THE GHANA MILITARY ACADEMY WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1960 TO OFFER BASIC MILITARY AND ACADEMIC TRAINING TO YOUNG OFFICERS OF THE ARMED FORCES. THE TRAINING INCLUDES THE STUDY OF AFRICAN AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS.

SATURDAY'S PARADE WAS WATCHED BY SENIOR ARMY, NAVY, AIR FORCE AND POLICE OFFICERS AS WELL AS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL, MR. J.W. HARLEY.

AFTER THE MARCH-PAST, LIEUTENANT-GENERAL ANKRAH INSPECTED A GUARD OF HONOUR FORMED BY SENIOR AND JUNIOR CADETS. HE THEN PRESENTED THE SWORD OF HONOUR TO SENIOR UNDER OFFICER K.T. HUPPENDAUER.

ADDRESSING THE CADET, LIEUTENANT-GENERAL ANKRAH TOLD THEM THEY HAD BEEN CHARGED WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY OF PROTECTING GHANA FROM AGGRESSION AND OF SAFEGUARDING THE PROPERTY OF THEIR FELLOW-COUNTRYMEN. HE SAID THE NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL WAS BENT ON PUTTING THE COUNTRY ON A SOUND ECONOMIC FOOTING, BUT ITS TASK WOULD NOT BE COMPLETE UNTIL IT HAD DRAWN UP AN ACCEPTABLE CONSTITUTION TO BE APPROVED BY THE PEOPLE OF GHANA THROUGH A REFERENDUM.
