  • Description

At a review "Somewhere in Israel" October 15, brisk, silver-haired Prime Minister David Ben-Gourion saluted 5,000 young citizens of the ten-year old Republic in uniform.

The youth belonged to Nahal - Israel's alert Pioneer-Soldier Corps combining the symbols of war and peace. These young men and women of the tiny Republic put aside overalls and farm clothes to snap into uniform for the parade.

Ben-Gourion, the man who keeps Israel on the alert against hostile neighbours, ordered military training for the entire nation. Every man, woman and student had to handle a gun as well as the plough.
