Background: A three-day meeting of ministers of education of member countries of the African, Malagasy and Mauritanian Common Organisation (O.C.A.M.) ended in Fort Lamy on Wednesday (15 July).
It was announced at the conference's end that the delegates had agreed to propose to their governments a draft convention setting up an interstate school of veterinary science and medicine at Dakar.
The closing speech of the conference was made by Chad's Minister of Education.
The proposed school is to train veterinarians and undertake various types of research. Pending ratification of the convention, Senegal was asked to ensure the school's operation.
Separate conventions will define the manner of cooperation between the proposed school and the University of Dakar and other universities or foundations.
