Background: The future potential of sun-power was demonstrated outside London's Festival Hall by a sun-driven car, and inside by model railways driven by sun-lamps, Aug 8.
A 1912 Baker electric car has been fitted with a detachable 26-square-foot panel mounted on the roof, containing 10,000 silicon solar cells - the largest single photovoltaic panel for conversion of solar energy believed built. Sunlight energises electrons in the cells, wired together in a circuit, to charge the car's 72-volt battery system.
