  • Description

In Malaysia, strict security measures are in force for the current visit by a trade mission from the People's Republic of China.

On Monday, the 13-man mission inspected a model village and government land development schemes producing rubber and palm oil just outside Kuala Lumpur.

They drove there in a long convoy escorted by police. But all foreign and local newsmen except those from government media were barred from covering the visitor.

Some local cameramen who defied the ban had their film confiscated. A VISNEWS camera team sneaked this film from inside a car.

Reuters said the tight security was aimed at preventing any incident which might jeopardies the thaw in relations between Malaysia and China.

The mission, which arrived to a warm welcome on Sunday, follows that by a Malaysian delegation to Peking last May. It will have discussions with Malaysian experts on rubber, palm oil, timber and other products.
