Background: Kenya has introduced tough security measures at Nairobi airport following recent hijacking of aircraft on international flights.
Armed police are now on duty at the airport and passengers and their luggage are being searched.
This is the first time such stringent security has been in force at Nairobi. It was brought in following the hijacking of four jet aircraft just over a week ago by Palestinian guerrillas. All four were later blown up by hijackers.
At Nairobi airport armed police and troops guard aircraft and nobody except passengers and cres is allowed near them.
Nairobi airport is headquarters for East African Airways which has just taken delivery of a multi-million pound fleet of VC-10 aircraft similar to BOAC airliner destroyed in Jordan by hijackers.
