  • Description

France's second biggest literary award - the Prix Femina - was this year awarded tp Bernard Privat, 45, for his novel, "At the foot of the Wall" (Au Pied du Mur).

A presentation ceremony was held at the Paris headquarters of the Allied Circle, Nov. 23. M. Privat, father of four children, seemed not in the least embarrassed as Madame Simone, the President, congratulated him with a big hug.

Eleven female celebrities, prominent in French literary circles, formed the panel of judges representing opinions and tastes of French women readers.

The prizewinning novel is based on M. Privat's activities during world war two, and his imprisonment in Germany 1940-45.
