    As the Pathet Lao moved swiftly to assume power in Laos, government troops at Camp 27, 27 kilometres (16.7 miles )north of Vientiane, were waiting for orders. They said they had been deployed to guard the area and would not move into Vientiane until they were ordered to.

    Meanwhile, at Vientiane's Wattay Airport, 83 foreign passengers were paid they would have to get off an airliner and stay in laos. The passenger were mainly vietnamese and Taiwanese national who had been living in laos.

    Only 24 passengers were allowed to leave on the aircraft. The ??? passengers were checked at the Royal Air Lao booking counter, in a flight to Bangkok, but they were stopped at the immigration section.

    Luggage that had already been put on the aircraft was unloaded and returned to the terminal building.

    The passengers were told their travel documents were no longer valid.

    At the Lao-German Technical College in Vientiane, rebel army cadets demonstrated against their commanders. They erected banners and handed not leaflets to passers-by . Police kept a close watch on the cadets, but there were no incidents.
